The OSS participates in the IRD side event, May 13, 2022

As part of its participation at COP15, which was held in Abidjan, the OSS took part in the "Shaping enabling conditions for sustainable interventions for drought resilience" side event, co-organized by the Development Research Institute (IRD) and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Côte d'Ivoire, on Friday May 13, 2022.

This event aimed to contribute to the UNCCD's drought program and to agree on the best conditions for sustainable drought actions in the drylands of Africa.  

A high-level panel animated this side event :

• Mr. Nabil BEN KHATRA, Executive Secretary of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS),
• Mrs. Fatou MAR, OSS Land Department Coordinator,
• Mr. Elvis Paul Nfor TANGEM, Coordinator of the Great Green Wall for the Sahara and Sahel,
• His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim YACOUBOU, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies of Niger,
• Mr. Moumini SAVADOGO, Executive Director of WASCAL,
• Mr. Al Hamndou DORSOUMA, Acting Director of the “Climate Change and Green Growth” Department of the AfDB Group,
• Mr. Cheikh Mbow, Director General of the Centre de Suivi Ecologique of Dakar.

In his speech, Mr. Nabil Ben Khatra emphasized the importance of adopting a multi-thematic and multi-scale spatio-temporal approach to address the drought phenomenon and its short-term food insecurity impact and the loss of the soil production potential in the long term.

Mrs. Fatou MAR, presented the OSS programs and achievements, in particular those relating to the establishment of the Drought Early Warning System.
