The OSS and UNCCD committed to promote innovation and data benefits to enhance resilience

The OSS is pleased to announce that it has been selected as a regional focal point for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), with the primary objective of providing support to countries in their reporting on Sustainable Development Goal 15.3.1. This framework will reinforce the use of Earth Observation data and technologies to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality.

It will also strengthen evidence-based policymaking and enhance the capacity of African countries for land degradation and drought reporting and monitoring and serve for collaborative efforts related to the Great Green Wall Initiative, as well as land restoration and drought resilience in Africa.

The OSS and UNCCD will make sure that land and drought-related decisions are grounded in high-quality, reliable and relevant information by integrating advanced data analytics, digital innovation and technical capacity building.
