First Training Workshop on Digital Earth Africa Services for Land Degradation Monitoring, May 29, 2025

The Sahara and Sahel Observatory organized an introductory online training workshop, on May 29, on the use of Earth Observation, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning for monitoring and managing natural resources. Targeting Tunisian national institutions, this workshop reflects the OSS and Digital Earth Africa (DEA) commitment to capacity building for better adoption of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence technologies.

The training brought together participants from institutions affiliated with the Tunisian Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, and Finance. They included decision-makers, water and natural resources managers and experts, as well as GIS and remote sensing specialists. The workshop provided an opportunity to explore DEA's innovative platforms, with a focus on resources and services dedicated to monitoring land degradation, particularly through SDG indicator 15.3.1 and its sub-indicators. DEA's Sandbox tool, in particular, was presented as a valuable tool for data analysis and exploitation.

This workshop inaugurates a series of monthly training sessions aimed at building the capacities of Tunisian stakeholders to better leverage Earth Observation, Cloud Computing, and Machine Learning technologies for monitoring and managing natural resources.
