Start of the "Continental Workshop on Land Degradation Monitoring in Africa", October 3 - 7, 2022, Abidjan - Côte d'Ivoire.

Decision-makers, researchers, experts and representatives of the GMES&Africa consortia and partner institutions have gathered on the occasion of the “Continental Workshop on Land Degradation Monitoring in Africa”, organized by the OSS, in partnership with the African Union and with the financial support of the European Union, from October 3 to 7 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, to assess the land degradation situation in Africa and reach out for the possibilities of their restoration.

The OSS Executive Secretary, the CILSS Executive Secretary, the Special Adviser to the Director General of the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development, the Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation in Côte d'Ivoire, the Representative of the ESTI Commissioner at the AUC, the Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Water and Forests of Côte d'Ivoire, and the FAO National Forestry Expert, were present and kick started the workshop.

The meeting sessions will open prospects for exchange and sharing and will initiate debates on concerns related to sustainable land management in Africa, in the hope of pinpointing the main causes of their degradation and agreeing on the best practices and avenues for their restoration through remote sensing.
