This document highlights the critical role of satellite-based Earth Observation (EO) in monitoring and managing natural resources, essential for sustainable development in the region.

Amid growing challenges such as climate variability, food security concerns, and land degradation, the GMES & Africa initiative aims to offer innovative solutions leveraging EO data and techniques. Through key operational services like MISBAR and MISLAND, the project provides valuable tools for:

  • Monitoring agricultural campaigns and water usage for irrigation.
  • Detecting climatic anomalies and drought risks.
  • Assessing land degradation and planning restoration activities.

The advocacy also outlines strategic objectives, including capacity building, promoting regional cooperation, and enhancing the use of EO-based information for decision-making by local communities and policymakers.

This document serves as a call to action for greater adoption of space technologies to address environmental and climate challenges, ultimately contributing to sustainable natural resource management in North Africa.
