Webinar on “Africa and the European spatial data: for a greener future and sustainable economic growth” - May 31, 2022.

The OSS took its participation in the Webinar on "Africa and the European spatial data: for a greener future and sustainable economic growth" held on May 31, 2022, to give an overview on the achievements of the AfriCultuReS and GMES&Africa projects.

It also highlighted the cross-fertilization between these projects and shared the results enhancing the COPERNICUS data. Land use and crop type maps developed at various scales, geospatial decision support platforms were also presented. The role of the MISBAR, MISLAND and AfriCultuReS platforms in agricultural monitoring and spatio-temporal analysis of land degradation was also introduced and explained.

This event was organized by "Global Action of the European Union for Space" and brought together experts from the Directorate General for Industry and Space of the European Commission (DG DEFIS) as well as renowned African and European national and regional institutions. The investment of these institutions in the promotion of the COPERNICUS Program satellite products is a major support for decision-making in the fields of agriculture, food security, land degradation monitoring and natural resources management.

The event put to light the OSS commitment as a relay of the COPERNICUS Program, as well as its involvement in the promotion and operational use of Earth Observation products and their better consideration in decision-making processes.
