Grand-Popo (Benin), November 17, 2025
The Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS), in collaboration with the Mono Basin Authority (MBA) and the Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA), headed to Grand-Popo (Benin) to launch the national training for Beninese experts on the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) of the Mono Basin, as part of the implementation of the Regional Initiative for Water and Environment in the Mono Basin (IREE-MONO) project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Held from 17 to 19 November 2025, this training session aims to build the technical and institutional capacities of Beninese experts involved in the TDA development. It helps participants attain an in-depth understanding of the TDA/SAP process based on the GEF IW:LEARN methodology, particularly regarding the identification of transboundary issues, cause-effect analysis, and the development of joint strategic actions.
During this workshop - which brings together representatives from national institutions and national experts - the opening remarks underscored the importance of enhancing local expertise as a key driver for the sustainable and shared management of water resources in the Mono Basin.
Structured around technical presentations, case studies, and group work, this training represents a critical milestone in the implementation of the IREE-MONO project and in establishing a national pool of experts capable of supporting the TDA/SAP process at the regional level.
