The Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) was represented by Mrs. Apolline Bambara and Mr. Joël TOSSOU, in the national restitution and validation workshop of the national TDA reports for the Taoudéni basin national part, it organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Water of Mali (MMEW), as part of the NB-ITTAS project, and that was followed by the establishment of pilot demonstration sites, on July 04 - 06, 2022, in Mali.

The workshop, held under the local coordination of Dr. Aboubakar SIDIBE, project National Focal Point and Head of Water Resources Monitoring and Management Division at the National Directorate of Hydraulics (NDH), brought together representatives of national public institutions as well as participants from the civil society in Mali. The official opening speech was delivered by Mr. Drissa Samanké, Technical Advisor for Water Resources, representative of the Minister of Mines, Energy and Water.

In addition to the restitution and validation of the thematic reports and the TDA main document, the participants took the event to make an in-depth analysis of the priority environmental issues ahead of the aquifer system at the national level. They also made recommendations and proposed long-term solutions to overcome such difficulties.

The Mali national workshop is the closing step of a series of meetings held in Benin, Mauritania and Burkina Faso. This series will be followed by a regional TDA validation workshop that will open prospects for the implementation of common solutions under a regional-level strategic action program (SAP), once the trans-boundary challenges and risks related to the use of the resource are identified.
