Monitoring-Evaluation guide for the SAWAP portfolio performances: building resilience through innovation, communication and knowledge services

The BRICKS project has been designed to facilitate the fulfillment of these needs. In fact, the project provides a regional platform to promote exchanges with a view to conducting joint actions between the 12 Sahel and West African countries of the SAWAP program. The overall objective is to improve access to best practices and monitoring information in terms of sustainable land use and management of the SAWAP portfolio.

Developing specifications for monitoring systems at the regional level

The OSS has been working for about twenty years to set up a network of long-term ecological monitoring observatories (ROSELT /OSS) and national environmental monitoring systems (NEMSs), and to develop aligned methodologies and standard tools for the benefit of its member countries. However, despite the efforts made, environmental monitoring methods and tools are poorly disseminated and their ownership is still below the expectations.

Implementing the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), in particular the UNFCCC, the UNCBD and the UNCCD, and having them translated at the country level, into National Environmental Action Programs, is based on the establishment of National Environmental Monitoring Systems (NEMSs), which must ensure the collection, processing and circulation of information within environmental observatories.
