In a rapidly changing world, data has become one of Africa’s most powerful tools for sustainable development. From disaster resilience to economic growth, Earth Observation (EO) and geospatial technologies are helping transform raw information into actionable knowledge that can guide decision-making across the continent.
This spirit of innovation and collaboration was at the heart of the 9th AfriGEO International Symposium held under the theme “From Data to Impact” that brought together policy-makers, scientists, innovators, and regional partners to reflect on how geospatial data can serve as a driver of progress, equity, and resilience for Africa.
Discussions emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and capacity development, promote open and equitable access to data, and turn information into tangible impact for decision-makers. Participants also called for a greater focus on innovation through Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, and Big Data analytics, while investing in the skills and creativity of Africa’s youth to build a truly resilient future.
The OSS representative highlighted the Organization’s ongoing efforts to advance Earth Observation in Africa and to harness cutting-edge technologies such as AI and cloud-based platforms to address environmental and development challenges. In line with its mission of knowledge transfer and capacity building, the OSS has already trained more than 600 experts and technicians from over 30 African institutions in 2025, underscoring its commitment to an Africa that is resilient, innovative, and connected to its natural wealth.
By fostering collaboration and translating data into meaningful impact, the AfriGEO Symposium reaffirmed a shared vision: an Africa where science and technology work hand in hand to shape a sustainable and inclusive future.
