Desertification Information System in support to national Action Programs in the Mediterranean
The UN Convention to Combat Desertification represents the appropriate framework for the mobilization of international community to combat desertification. By involving several Mediterranean countries, the DIS-MED project of the UNCCD (Desertification Information System in support to national action programs in the Mediterranean) is inscribed within the framework of this international mobilization.
The main objective of the survey launched by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) is to outline a MENA region's perspective on the main issues related to land degradation and restoration to be discussed at the the third Scientific Conference of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD3SC).
The UNCCD third Scientific Conference took place on 9 -12 March 2015 in Cancun (Mexico).
“Combating Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought for poverty reduction and sustainable development: the contribution of science, technology, traditional knowledge and practices” is the theme selected for the third edition of the UNCCD Scientific Conference".
OSS took part in the francophone ministerial segment organized on 24 September 2013 at Windhoek (Namibia) won the fringes of the eleventh session of the Conference of Parties (COP11) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
“How to leverage the Combat against desertification to establish the green economy and sustainable socio-economic development” was the theme of the high-level meeting which witnessed the participation of the newly appointed UNCCD Executive Secretary, Ms. Monique Barbut, and several ministers from OSS member countries.
OSS’s side-event at the eleventh Conference of Parties to the UNCCD took place on 26 September 2013 and saw the presence of Mr Adamou CHAIFOU, Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Niger and Chairman of the OSS Executive Board.
Global Water Solidarity (GWS) en collaboration avec la Région de l’Oriental du Royaume du Maroc, l’OSS ainsi que plusieurs partenaires impliqués dans la problématique de l’eau, organisent un forum sous le thème «Quels Mécanismes Solidaires Décentralisés et coopérations méditerranéennes à mettre en œuvre pour aider à faire du Droit à l’Eau et à l’Assainissement une réalité en Méditerranée?».
