MENA preparatory survey to the UNCCD Scientific Conference

The main objective of the survey launched by the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) is to outline a MENA region's perspective on the main issues related to land degradation and restoration to be discussed at the the third Scientific Conference of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD3SC). If you wish to take part in the survey, please submit your inputs no later than 10 February 2015

The survey's questionnaire is aimed at various stakeholders involved in land degradation and restoration–related activities (scientists, practitioners, decision-makers, civil society organizations, local and indigenous communities, private sector operators, etc.).

Information collected through the questionnaire will feed into a summary report reflecting the contributors' inputs. The report will serve as a basis for discussions at the OSS side-event to be organized on the fringes of UNCCD3SC.

It is not compulsory to fill in the questionnaire in a comprehensive manner. You may choose to respond to the sections most related to your areas of interest and expertise.

The UNCCD3SC will take place on 9-12 March 2015 in Cancun (Mexico) within the framework of the 4th special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-4) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The conference's theme is "Combating drought, land degradation and desertification for poverty reduction and sustainable development: the contribution of science, technology, traditional knowledge and practices".

The conference will provide an opportunity for all participants to share and discuss the latest scientific developments and advances on the assessment of socio-ecosystems' vulnerability and their current and future adaptation capacity to climate change. A number of recommendations aimed at policymakers and other stakeholder groups will also be devised.
