REPSAHEL: Environmental Monitoring in Chad and Senegal

Two workshops were organized within the framework of the REPSAHEL project on 4 and 12 December 2013 respectively in Dakar (Senegal) and N'djamena (Chad) to present the studies conducted by OSS and national experts in each country on the analysis of policymaking and decisional processes, the role of sahelian communities in those processes and the availability of environmental data and information.

The two workshops, organized jointly with the Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE) in Senegal and the Ministère de l’Environnement et des Ressources halieutiques in Chad, saw the participation of members of Parliament, senior officials from the concerned ministries, national experts and representatives of the civil society from the two concerned countries.

Activities during the two workshops included the validation of the national studies that were subsequently handed over to national partner institutions.

A communication strategy was also devised within the framework of the REPSAHEL project, which aims to improve the resilience of the sahelian communities to environmental changes.

Similar workshops are planned to take place in other REPSAHEL beneficiary countries.
